Harold Sakata strikes a pose
Cummings, Stojack Vie Saturday Night
Two-thirds of a triple main event have been signed by Matchmaker Don Owen for his Saturday night mat card at the Armory arena. The third feature is slated for announcement later in the week.
Bob Cummings and Frankie Stojack will battle in the second feature bout of the night, while Taske Sakata will meet Karl Gray in the third headline attraction.
Cummings, lately nicknamed "Bulldog" because of the rugged tactics he uses when in the ring, runs into a formidable opponent in Stojack, one-time Pacific Coast title-holder. Stojack still uses his famed "airplane spin," the maneuver that has won him several tough matches, and may come through for him Saturday night.
Sakata, the Japanese "Oriental Atlas," makes his local wrestling debut in Eugene Saturday night. The former champion weightlifter of the U.S. Olympic team is a native Hawaiian and his only appearances out of the Islands have been in British Columbia, where he was a sensation.
Owen sought to match him against The Great Atlas but the former Mr. America flatly refused to meet him and told him to "Go get a reputation."
So because of his fine record, Owen has matched him again Karl Gray, who is expected to give the Hawaiian-born Japanese a thorough test.
The last feature bout will be announced later in the week along with a preliminary match.
