"The Great Atlas"
5' 7" and 220 lbs
(born as Morris Shapiro)
Four superb wrestling bouts have been signed by Matchmaker Don Owen for his Saturday night card at the Armory arena, topped off by the headline event between Frankie Stojack and The Great Atlas.
It will be a battle of speed and finesse against sheer strength, the bout almost even as Stojack has his "airplan spin" and Atlas his tremendous full-Nelson.
Stojack plans to keep clear of Atlas, not give him a chance to clamp on with his crushing hold. The former WSC grid star hopes to scoop him too his shoulders and turn him 100 times before letting him back down to the canvas. If it works out this way, Stojack may grab off a victory, but Atlas is very confident of throwing the nifty fastie.
Atlas is still smarting over his disqualification defeat to Ernie Piluso last week and will be might tough to beat this Saturday with the bout having all the promise of being one of the greatest ever seen here.
In the semi-final battle, rugged Tony Ross will match holds with Ted Bell, the sensational swifty. A pair of northerrners clash in one of the preliminary bouts, Danno MacDonald taking on the very tought Canadian, Rod Fenton.
Paavo Katonen will meet Johnny Pavich in the night's curtain-raser. Pavich is making his first appearance here, hailing from Hungary. His real name is Sziszkszy, but because most people can't pronounce it -- he had it changed to Pavich.
